Sports and pool activities: From Kaenz to swimming

We have addressed this issue, since in the last period, there has been an explosion of consultations and greater interest in sports and pool activities.

Daily we are asked: Can I only perform swimming and hydro gymnastics in a swimming pool? Can I do some aquatic activity in the pool if I do not know how to swim? From what age is swimming for babies recommended? What sports can be done in a heated pool?

Next, we intend to provide answers to these and other frequently asked questions, making these topics clearer by approaching them in a professional and simple way for all readers. In addition, we have divided the pool activities into three main groups:

1) Water sports;

2) Recreational or aquatic fitness activities and

3) Aquatic therapeutic activities.

So… What sports or activities in pool, you can be made?

There are water sports that develop in the water (swimming, water polo, synchronized swimming and ornamental jumps), underwater (apnea or free diving) and other sports that are made on the water, which we will only name them since they are mainly practiced In lakes, lagoons, rivers, open water in the sea and not in swimming pools, such as rowing, canoeing, water skiing, sailing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, Rafting, Body boarding, Hydro speed, Subwing and Surf.Water activities at sea, Surfing.

What recreational or recreational aquatic activities can be developed in heated pool?

What Therapeutic Activities or Aquatic Therapy can I do in a pool?

There are several methods of aquatic therapy, which must be performed by a Kinesiologist or Physical Therapist, divided into two types:

1) Individualized therapies: In which an aquatic therapist performs certain maneuvers on only one subject at a time: Halliwick (focused mainly on people with a neurological or motor control disorder), Watsú (is effective to relax and reduce pains by Stress), and Bad Ragaz Ring Method (uses the FNP / Kabat and floats in the form of rings for muscle strengthening).

2) Group therapies: AiChi (comes from Taichi, based on breathing, postures, energy, slow and wide movements), Kaenz (you do not need to know how to swim, use specific floats and rely on prescribing physical exercise in vertical position in movement), swimming for pregnant women (directed to pregnant women from 9 weeks of gestation) and aquatic motor in infants (they can be incorporated to the parents, with their babies from 4 months of age, but taking into consideration the quality, temperature and levels of chlorine from water).

Regardless of the aquatic activity you are doing or want to do, you should consider the accesses (parking, ramps, and hydraulic chairs), quality standards of swimming pool facilities, dressing rooms, hygienic services and water characteristics.
